Hampton University MARC Program - 2014 MARC Scholars
HU Faculty Research Mentor: Dr. Neelam Azad, Associate Professor and Chair, Pharmaceutical Sciences
"The MARC program has truly helped to catalyze and solidify my passion for research. This program afforded me the opportunity to engage in independent research projects that have made me more confident in my abilities to think critically as a budding scientist. My goal is to fully take advantage of the MARC program benefits so that I will be well prepared for a future career in research."
HU Faculty Research Mentor: Dr. Joanne Chan/Associate Professor, Biological Sciences
"I wish to successfully complete the MARC program and be accepted into one of the top graduate schools in the nation for biomedical research. I believe MARC will prepare me with the necessary skills to excel in any graduate school. MARC has granted me access to valuable network connections, memorable experiences, and also a great mentor as I matriculate into graduate school and beyond."
Faculty Research Mentor: Dr. Paul Gueye, Assistant Professor, Physics
"The MARC program is amazing for giving me a chance to pursue my goal of becoming a physician scientist. With the MARC program, I hope to gain more research experience so I can be competitive for MD/PhD programs. I have gained so much confidence in myself since being accepted and I have received a lot of guidance from my mentors. I am truly grateful!"
Faculty Research Mentor: Dr. Luisel RicksSanti, Director, Cancer Research Center
"My hope is that the MARC program will prepare me for a career in research in the field cellular and molecular biology, computational biology, or bioinformatics. My ultimate career goal is to be the PI of a lab or to be a college professor (or both). After I graduate I plan on entering a PhD or MD/PhD program in one of the listed fields.
A personal goal I have is to find a way to bridge my interest in computers and my interest in science and make a career out of it."
